Vineyards & Terroir
ArborBrook Vineyards is located within the Chehalem Mountains AVA and borders the Ribbon Ridge AVA. The vineyard is at an elevation of approximately 400 feet and is rich with primarily Dupee sedimentary soils (a sub-set of Willakenzie soil). Exposure varies, but is primarily south-eastern and eastern in orientation.
The first block of five acres was planted in 2001 and is entirely Dijon Clone 777, a high-quality clone of the Pinot Noir grape that is known to produce fine wines with strong flavor and character, showing tons of dark fruit, black cherry and an interesting hint of anise on the finish.
The second five acre block was planted in early Spring 2006 and contains Dijon Clones 115 and 667, along with Pommard, an Old World clone. These clones were chosen due to the blending potentials of the clones, as well as the possibilities of stand-alone clonal designated wines.
ArborBrook is dry-farmed. We believe this promotes deeper root growth and complexity in the flavors of our wines. Deep growing plants interact with the microbes in the soil, absorbing nutrients and minerals that contribute to an increased complexity and structure in the wines.
The unique terroir of ArborBrook, created through the combination of location, climate, soil structure and many other important factors, truly makes this a special place with special wines.
In addition to our Estate-grown Pinot Noir grapes, we have secured outstanding fruit from two well-renowned Oregon vineyards for the two styles of Pinot Gris we produce. Guadalupe Vineyard is located in the Dundee Hills. These aged Pinot Gris vines produce exceptionally concentrated fruit characteristics that make for an amazing Alsatian-style Pinot Gris. Croft Vineyards, located west of Monmouth, further south in the Willamette Valley, was planted in the 1980s and has been organically farmed since inception. This vineyard produces extraordinary Pinot Gris due to the age of the vines, focused farming practices, soil type, and its microclimate due to the influence of the Coast Range.
Lastly, our late-harvest Semillon is sourced from the Klipsun Vineyard in the Red Mountain AVA of eastern Washington. These vines are truly amazing to see amongst the sage brush! Klipsun has received much recognition for its highest-quality fruit and was named as one of the “25 Great Vineyards in the World.”
