2007 ANA VINEYARD PINOT GRIS

How to describe 2007 harvest? One word, WET. The rains began in September and, other than a couple little breaks, continued. Harvest was a challenge to ensure that the fruit hung long enough to continue ripening, but was not negatively impacted by the moisture. The 2007 vintage of our barrel-fermented ANA Vineyard Pinot Gris is definitely the product of a cool growing year that never saw a lot of heat. Slowly maturing and never reaching the higher sugar levels of the 2004 and 2006 vintages, the fruit produced a very delicate wine with lower alcohol levels. The wine greets you with notes of citrus and lemon that is augmented by hints of pear and apricot. The finish is soft and long with a touch of vanilla and gentle fullness that is the result of longer barrel-aging and more frequent stirring of the lees during the aging process. This wine will be very drinkable at its release in July 2008, but we would also suggest laying this wine down for a few months to fully benefit from additional bottle aging that will result in further integration of the wine.
