Bringing an end to a wonderful five-year run of fruit from the ANA/Weber Vineyard in the heart of the Dundee Hills, the 2008 vintage has us moving out of the vineyard at the top of our game!  The year was consummated with a gorgeous Indian summer that gave us the kind of hang-time that Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir yearn for.  We were able to hang this fruit until October 27th, our latest pick date ever for this vineyard.  Barrel-fermented using several strains of yeast originating in the Alsace Region of France, in a combination of new, second and third year oak, this wine was then aged sur lees for eight months in French oak, producing a beautiful Alsatian-style Pinot Gris.

Greeting you with a rich nose of dried apricots and hints of lemon and mandarin orange, the initial taste impression brings you a smooth and soft mouthfeel that combines notes of Asian pear and other stone-fruit.  As the wine hits your mid-palate and transitions beyond, it finishes with a soothing spiciness including hints of ginger, almond, and vanilla.  This wine displays beautiful depth of finish with fresh balance and acidity.  Enjoy this wine with spicier foods like Asian faire and Cajun-style dishes or with oven-roasted pheasant or crab cakes.

Not to worry about the end of ANA/Weber Vineyard Pinot Gris, we have something equally fine in 2009, when we’ll introduce our Guadalupe Vineyard Pinot Gris also produced in the Alsatian tradition.
