Who We Are
ArborBrook Stables is privately owned and operated by Mary Hansen. Mary’s “horse gene” runs back generations and she’s been riding since she was a baby in her mother’s arms. Her experience has included breeding, raising, riding, and showing for many years. She has dealt mostly with Arabians and Quarter horses, but has been around many other breeds throughout the years.
Mary boarded her horses for several years, until meeting and marrying her husband, Dave. In 1999, they discovered their new home outside of Newberg, at the base of the Chehalem Mountain range. The adventure began. The horses moved home and the first planting of the vineyard was completed.
Today, Mary and Dave own and operate ArborBrook Vineyards. However, Mary’s passion for horses has not changed. In dividing up the 30-acre parcel, plenty of space was designated for pasture, stables, and a covered arena.
While Mary’s depth of knowledge is strong, if a situation occurs that is unusual, she does not hesitate to rely on other horse people, vets, and other professionals, depending on the specific situation. In handling horses, Mary has a very quiet and assured style. Horses are treated gently and are given respect, but are expected to mind their manners, as well. Whips, crops, chains, or other disciplinary tools are not used, unless there is no other option and the safety of both the her and the horse. Calmness is the key, along with respect and love.
You can rest assured that your horse will receive exceptional care.
