Bloom has Arrived (Finally!)We had five days of gorgeous sunny weather, warm enough to motivate the plants to actually BLOOM! Bloom indicates that we are approximately 100 days from harvest. Naturally, this being Oregon, we are now experiencing light rain (drizzle). Hopefully, the sun will return soon! So, when bloom occurred, I happened to come home as our vineyard manager, Daniel Fey, was getting ready to walk the vineyard. Daniel showed me how to identify the male and female parts of the clusters (the pistil and stamen). According to Daniel, the yellow blooms are the male and the green blooms are the female. Grapes are self-pollinating plants, so do not require pollination from bees. Come back soon! More pictures and news will be shared! |
